Dear Stranger, I love You: Mia and Brad's Full Story, Characters & Ending

Mia's letters, folded into paper hearts and left in Chloe's locker, work right away. Brad keeps his side of the deal too. He gets Mia a makeover and a spot next to Dan at a party, and she gets her first kiss before the police break it up. Samantha, convinced Mia is after Brad, rips her clothes, locks her in her room and hounds her at every turn.

Dan turns out to be shallow and ditches a date with Mia to follow Samantha. Mia and Brad, on the other hand, keep getting closer. When Mia quietly keeps one of the letters instead of delivering it, Brad feels betrayed, but he still comes back to her for help. Then come driving lessons and a night at the drive-in. When Mia's mother suddenly needs a heart transplant, Brad understands why Mia runs Paper Hearts and throws a charity car wash to help, and Mia realizes she is falling for him.

Brad's first date with Chloe goes wrong when the earpiece Mia uses to feed him lines breaks down, but he wins Chloe over by being himself, and they start dating. Mia publicly dumps Dan after catching him with a cheerleader.

Then Samantha unlocks Mia's Paper Hearts phone and blackmails her: tell Chloe who really wrote the letters, or the principal gets her name. When Mia hesitates, Samantha tells Chloe herself. Dan spreads vile rumors about Mia, Brad beats him up in the locker room, and Dan and his friends beat Brad unconscious. Mia, who has been afraid of driving since the crash, drives him to the hospital herself.

Mia tells Chloe that Brad's feelings were real and steps aside. Then Samantha steals all the money Mia saved for the surgery and gets her suspended. At her lowest point, on the bridge where her parents crashed, Mia slips, and Brad catches her.

In the principal's office, Brad proves Samantha stole the money. When Samantha exposes Mia as Paper Hearts, Brad takes the blame and claims he ran the app himself. Brad and Samantha are both expelled, and Mia's secret stays safe.

Mia and Brad rush to the hospital with the money. They are late, but Brad pushes the doctor to fit her mother back in, and the surgery is a success. Mia and Brad kiss, then Mia pulls away when she sees Chloe watching. Chloe soon breaks up with Brad, telling him that he and Mia always made sense, and hands him a paper heart to fill with his own words.

Brad's letter lands in Mia's locker. At graduation, valedictorian Mia drops her planned speech to talk about love, then runs off the stage to find Brad, who is about to move away with his parents. She tells him she loves him, and he says the letter already gave her his answer. Mia deletes Paper Hearts, starts learning to drive so they can make long distance work, and the story ends with the two of them on the hood of his car, kissing at sunset.
