Escaping My Ex-Husband: Aria and Mason's Full Story, Characters & Ending

Mason hires Aria as a junior trip planner and threatens to have her blacklisted if she works anywhere else. Then he introduces her new manager: Leigh, his girlfriend. Aria soon learns Leigh is also her new stepsister, now living in her old home with her father.

Leigh buries Aria in work, slaps her in front of the office and frames her for spending on Mason's credit card. Mason sees through it, because he remembers Aria never drinks. When a man with a knife corners Aria on her way home, Mason scares him off and drives her to her tiny, bare apartment. They talk all night, and the old feelings return.

Celia sets up a business deal to pull Mason back toward Leigh. The new partner, calling himself the CEO of Sovereign Hotels, is Anton under a fake name. He wants access to Mason's private jet partners and wants Aria back. Mason, sure there is still something between them, asks Aria to come with him to Anton's resort in Italy to prove there isn't.

In Italy, Leigh shows up uninvited and Anton corners Aria in her room. He threatens to kill Mason unless she comes back to him. Mason knocks and finds her disheveled, and Anton tells him about her heart condition. Hurt, Mason gets engaged to Leigh. But when Leigh slaps Aria and cuts her cheek, Mason calls the engagement off and finally hears Aria out.

At dinner, Anton slips something into Aria's water. Mason gets her out, then they find Anton waiting in the lobby with Leigh tied to a chair. Anton tells Mason to choose which woman leaves. Aria offers to marry Anton again to save them, but Mason has recorded everything, and police sirens give them the chance to escape. Anton gets away too.

Back home, Aria tells Mason the whole truth, and he admits he spent seven years trying not to love her and failed. They become a couple. Leigh fakes an engagement party, uses a news report about Aria's link to Anton to humiliate her, and steals her heart pills. That night Aria finds a threatening package from Anton in her locked apartment and collapses. Mason catches Leigh with the pills, breaks down Aria's door and gets her to the hospital in time.

Aria is done running. Mason calls Anton and offers to hand her over to save their deal. At Anton's mansion, Aria steps out with a police officer, and Anton and his guard are arrested for murder and a long list of other crimes. Then Dr. Cordero calls with news: the treatment worked, and Aria is in remission.

Aria finally goes home. Her father is overjoyed to see her alive, learns that Celia hid her from him, and throws Celia and Leigh out. That night Mason asks Henry for his blessing and proposes, and Aria says yes.

In the final scene, the news announces their upcoming wedding of the year. Anton listens from a prison cell, and Leigh hears it while mopping floors at her new job as a janitor. Aria tells Mason she can finally start living, and they start talking about baby names.
